Ryan Rathmann, Director

Prior to joining the Study Abroad Office at Georgia State, Ryan worked as an Assistant Director of Admissions and as the Logistics and Operations Manager for The Experiment in International Living. While working at this eighty year old 501c3, Ryan had the pleasure of working with international partners, mentors, educators, parents and donors to provide unparalleled access to international education for exemplary students. Prior to entering the field of international education, Ryan received his M.A. in Cultural Policy from The University of Chicago.  While working on his B.A. in German and English Literature at Humboldt State University, Ryan spent his summers fighting forest fires on an elite interagency ‘Hotshot’ crew as a lead sawyer and lead firefighter.  Ryan’s passion for study abroad was inspired by his undergraduate experiences overseas: a semester in Vienna and an academic year enrolled at The University of Heidelberg. At Georgia State University, Ryan hopes to find innovative and thoughtful ways to pay forward the meaningful overseas experiences that transformed his education, his career and his world view. Email: rrathmann@gsu.edu

Rosalyn Jordan, Business Manager

Rosalyn-JordanPrior to joining the Study Abroad Programs Office at Georgia State, Rosalyn worked as an Accountant I for the Office of Disbursements for five years processing travel expenses for the entire university. While working in the Office of Disbursements Rosalyn was given the opportunity to learn about the history of Georgia State as well as form relationships with staff and faculty. During her career at Georgia State, Rosalyn earned her B.S. in Liberal Studies with a minor in Business from Mercer University, as well as her Office Professional Certificate from Georgia State.  Rosalyn has over 14 years of Accounting experience and has worked in areas such as property management, travel, retail and telecommunications. Rosalyn loves to travel, which ignites her passion for the Study Abroad Program Office. In her spare time she likes to walk dogs, hang out in Midtown, and crash Real Housewives of Atlanta casting sets. Email: rosalynjordan@gsu.edu

Cristina Roman, Study Abroad Coordinator

Cristina-2Cristina Roman is a recent dual-degree graduate of Georgia State University and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Economics from the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. She participated in GSU’s Italian Studies in Perugia program twice and gives credit to the program for becoming fluent in the language! In addition, Cristina is an alumna of  Università Ca’ Foscari di Venezia thanks to the dual degree exchange program with Georgia State University and the university in Venice, Italy. She loves to explore and has travelled to many countries including Canada, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Morocco, Spain, France, Germany, and the Netherlands. Email: croman3@gsu.edu

Stephen Murray, Senior Study Abroad Advisor

Stephen Murray is a recent graduate of Georgia State University having completed Master’s degrees in Anthropology and Applied Linguistics.  He participated in GSU’s Tsinghua University Exchange in addition to having studied abroad in Erlangen, Germany as an undergraduate German major at Georgia Southern University.  In addition to his academic experience he has worked in customer service and operations fields and the travel industry.  Over the years he has travelled to the United Kingdom, Norway, Italy, Switzerland, France, Mexico, Ireland, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Thailand, Belize, the Czech Republic, and China. Email: smurray7@gsu.edu

Alex Ricker, Study Abroad Advisor

Alex Ricker received a Bachelor’s degree in French Studies from the University of Florida. She went on to complete her Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics at Georgia State University. Directly after graduation, she taught English as a Second Language in Beijing, China through GSU’s Tsinghua Exchange Program. She continued teaching academic ESL in the Intensive English Program at Georgia State University in Atlanta for three years eventually changing paths and becoming an advisor in the Study Abroad Programs office. Alex believes in making the international education process approachable and achievable from start to finish, helping students explore their options and supporting them every step of the way. In addition, Alex recently became a certified yoga instructor. She has a strong personal practice and teaches yoga classes every week. Email: aricker1@gsu.edu

Casey Ottinger, Study Abroad Advisor

Casey Ottinger is a recent graduate of New York University where he received his Master’s degree in International Education and worked in the Office of Global Services. His interest in International Education was ignited while an undergraduate student at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL where he studied for a semester in Athens, Greece. Casey went on to work for the study abroad provider that facilitated his semester abroad. Emily Caskey, Study Abroad Advisor

Emily Caskey completed her Master’s degree in German Literature at the University of Georgia, where she taught introductory German language courses. As an undergraduate German and History major she studied abroad in Rostock, Germany through a UGA exchange program. In addition to her academic year abroad, she interned in Berlin at the U.S. Embassy and taught German to international students at the Humboldt University of Berlin. Emily’s passion for international education comes from her love of working with students and her enthusiasm for academic and cultural exchange; in her role as a Study Abroad Advisor at Georgia State she hopes to encourage curiosity and prepare students to benefit personally, academically, and professionally from study abroad. Email: ecaskey@gsu.edu

Brandon McKinnie, Study Abroad Intern

The newest addition to the Study Abroad team! Before joining the Study Abroad Office, Brandon was a Resident & Student Assistant for Georgia State University Housing for 3 years. He recently received his B.A. in Film & Video Studies and Theater Performance. While working on his B.A., Brandon studied abroad in London, England at the well-known Theatre Academy London. Brandon has always had a passion for traveling which ignited his dreams of pursuing international education.
