Pernell is a native of Virginia and has a background in international education and diversity work. Pernell’s desire to pursue a career within international education resulted from his two experiences abroad as an undergraduate student. In 2012, he explored the world of British media in London; and in 2013, he studied the rich history and culture of Ghana. While in Ghana, he also had the opportunity teach math and literacy to students at a non-profit organization that provided free education to students in the city of Accra. Connecting with these hardworking young students instilled the importance of cross-cultural experiences and that we all can learn from each other regardless of how different our cultures may be.
These transformative study abroad experiences stirred up a passion in Pernell to see others witness these type of global encounters. As a Study Abroad Advisor, Pernell gets to carry out his passion by assisting students in planning their international opportunities and also working to increase the number of multicultural students that participate in study abroad programs.
