If you’re nervous about funding your study abroad experience, you’re not alone! Many students are concerned with finding ways to pay for study abroad costs. The trick is to start your research early by exploring our website and meeting with a Study Abroad Advisor who can help you make sense of things and explore scholarship opportunities. To make study abroad a financially feasible opportunity for you, consider scholarships, state and federal financial aid, and creative ways to fundraise! The amount of funding that you can earn is up to you and how much time you are able and willing to put into exploring the various funding options for your study abroad experience.

In the fall and spring semesters, we offer a program called “Making Study Abroad Affordable.” Together,  we’ll go beyond creating a budget to learn how to make a Study Abroad experience a reality. Students will explore various resources, scholarships, program areas, and options. Follow the GSU events page for details.

Important: While most students are able to use financial aid to assist with the cost of studying abroad, it is very likely that you will need to cover these expenses up front and then be reimbursed at a later date by financial aid or other scholarships. Due to federal regulations, these funds very rarely come through in time to use them to cover your study abroad expenses directly! Please be aware of this and make arrangements to have your expenses covered in the meantime.
