STUDENTS ON A BUDGET
Many Georgia State University students with high, moderate, and low financial need study abroad. To make study abroad affordable you must plan ahead and decide on a budget that will be most appropriate for you. Your current Georgia State financial aid package can be used to study abroad if you take courses towards your degree. This includes Pell Grant, Federal Direct Loans (Subsidized and Unsubsidized Stafford Loans and PLUS loans), Perkins Loan, HOPE Scholarship, and other scholarships. In addition, GSU Study Abroad Programs has Study Abroad Scholarships available to students who apply to study abroad by the scholarship deadline each semester. Between your financial aid and GSU Study Abroad Scholarships, studying abroad is attainable for students on a budget.
- How will I budget for studying abroad?
- What is the financial aid process at GSU and for your study abroad program?
- Are you eligible for additional aid and scholarships through GSU, your program, or your department?
- If you are participating in a GSU faculty-led program or a non-GSU program, what is included in the program fee? What is excluded?
- What are the estimated living costs for my program? What is the exchange rate and cost of living difference in my host country compared to home?
- Does your program allow students to work part-time while abroad? What steps do you need to take to do this legally?
